Well done!!!
Many congratulations to Sophie (and me) for successfully graduating - and good luck with the job hunting!
Breakthrough Generations - The UK study of the causes of breast cancer
For women only :0)
I recently signed up to take part in the Breakthrough Generations long term study into the causes of breast cancer. It aims to observe patterns in 100,000 women in order to try and find some common factors and eventually the causes. At the moment only about 15,000 women have signed up, so I'm posting to try and encourage you to join.
If you do get involved you'll be studied for the next forty or so years, but there's really not all that much to it. Initially you have to fill in a detailed questionnaire about your lifestyle, health, medical background, and there's some quite personal stuff in there too, but it's manageable. You also need to give a blood sample. You'll then be contacted every few years to find out if you have had any major lifestyle or health changes; you may also need to give more blood. But that's it - and you could be helping your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren ....
Any woman over the age of 18 can take part. I really hope you'll follow the link and find out more.

Alison and Ulen's wedding
It may be 67 weeks away but we are already making plans for our wedding, and will be putting all the info in a website that Ulen is putting together ... there's nothing on there yet but keep checking www.alisonandulen.com for all our plans!
Happy news!
Hi everyone, just wanted to pass on some news .... Ulen and I went to Paris this weekend, and what with it being a leap year and all that, i proposed to him at the top of the Eiffel Tower and the poor man said yes! The wedding won't be till at least summer 2005 (for financial reasons to do with uni) but you're all invited so start looking for hats now :0)

Ugly Christmas Lights.com!
I'm sure that nobody in our family would ever have decorations as tacky as some of these!
Hope you all have a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New year.

Brighouse Today
Thanks to David Shaw for these photos and the Brighouse family history!
Commercial Street - the travel agents was Turners Confectionary Shop. On the other side of the arch is the other family shop, which apparently also belonged to Turners until 1955. Through the arch little is now left but the site behind the PDSA was where the cabs for the Crowther family business were kept. The PDSA shop was also the pottery business belonging to the Crowthers (?) in the late 19th Century, it is where Fred met Annie, which is one of three marriages between the two shops.(?) The travel agents was the tanning business of Edwin Stansfield c1855, Audrey could still see the hooks for hanging leather in the attic. Edwin was David's Great Grandfather, Fred's Grandad.
The end of Commercial Street and the block where the Stansfield family boot and shoe business existed from c1840 to c1938. The famous owner was our relative Sowden Stansfield who is pictured at the door of his shop in the Brighouse trade directory of the 1890's, the number of the unit needs more research but is one of those beyond the Cheese Shop (superb cheese and wine in the cellars - real old Stansfield territory remembered from David's childhood). The family money from this business went
to the church (approximately £15,000).
Sugden's flour mill, soon to be demolished.
The offices where David's father worked for most of 53 years.
Marjorie's 92nd birthday
Andy, Jane and Marie visited Marjorie on her birthday last month and took a couple of photos.
24 hour party people
Here's a few images of Saturday's party; thanks Andy! I'll try and put some more online soon.
Thanks!
Thanks, Andy and Jane, for inviting me to your party ... it was a lovely night and wonderful to see everyone again, especially in such happy circumstances!
Welcome!
Welcome to the Stansfield Family Blog! The idea of this place is for us all to be able to post family news, views, announcements, links to photos and anything else that the rest of the family would be interested in.
If you want to be able to post here, simply email me and I'll add you to the list of contributors. Alternatively, I'll be adding a comments facility soon. Any ideas for a more exotic name or anything else that would enhance the site, drop me a line!
I want to try and compile a list of all the birthdays in the family. I've put in those I can remember offhand for September (not sure about Sophie's ... sorry!) but I'm sure I've forgotten some, and have no idea for the rest of the year ... please can you email your birthday to me, and then I'll do my best to update the list every month.
